What should you automate first? A free prioritizer

Check whether a process is ready before you start building.

Use this worksheet for one candidate process, then compare it with another. The score is a transparent planning heuristic, not a prediction of financial return. Your answers stay in your browser.

How ready is this process?

How the score works

Each answer runs from 0 to 4. Frequency contributes up to 15 points; clear rules 25; accessible information 20; manageable exceptions 15; ownership 15; and review or recovery 10. The total is out of 100.

Before considering the total, this worksheet checks four prerequisites: defined rules, appropriate data access, an accountable owner, and a review or recovery plan. A zero in any of those areas leads to preparation first. Frequent work does not override those gaps.

Otherwise, 75 or more suggests a candidate for a limited pilot; 50–74 suggests documenting and narrowing it first; below 50 suggests simplifying the process or comparing another candidate. These thresholds are CCAiHelp’s planning choices, not validated research benchmarks.

Bring the score back to a real example.

Walk through the last time the work happened. Write down its trigger, required information, owner, output, and exceptions. Then estimate frequency and time per occurrence. A high score with little useful value is still not necessarily your best project.
